How to disable the ad blocker in Google Chrome

Google Chrome has a built-in ad blocker that saves the user from annoying ads – it hides most of the pop-up ads, but leaves messages from sites that comply with the browser's recommendations. These recommendations may not coincide with the user's preferences – so you can either disable the ad blocker manually or turn it back on. You can choose to block ads on all web properties or only on some of them.

About blocking ads in Google Chrome

Google Chrome hides ads on some resources by default. This algorithm works for a number of reasons:

  • There are too many ad units on the site;
  • Advertisements are too intrusive – they flash, turn on a loud sound or overlap the text. The browser filters all these ads and blocks them so that they do not interfere with the viewing of content.

If necessary, it is possible to disable or enable the blocking of advertising on any sites.

There are 2 ways to allow ads:

  1. Allow all ads – When using this method, be prepared for the strangest ads to appear. There is a high probability that after a few days or weeks you will still decide to use a blocker.
  2. Make a whitelist of web resources that are blocked by the Google Chrome browser – this helps if the blocker creates a problem.

Such individual settings allow you to configure the work in the network as conveniently as possible. It is worth spending a few minutes on this in order to save yourself hours and even days in the future.

Options for disabling the blocker

Start the browser, find an icon with three dots in the upper right corner of the open window. Click on this icon with the left mouse button, look at the menu and select "Settings".

  • Turn the mouse wheel down, select the "Additional" item.
  • Next, find the "Content Settings" block.
  • Click on it, then select the "Advertising" tab.
  • By default, protection is already enabled, so just change the color of the slider by moving the cursor.
  • When the slider turns blue, the protection is removed.

Allow all ads

In order to control advertisements, you need to go to the settings menu of the Chrome browser.

  • Find the icon with three dots, click on it and go to "Settings".
  • In the "Settings" menu, go all the way down and go to "Advanced".
  • Go even lower to the "Privacy and Security" section. Here we find the "Content Settings" option and click on it.
  • There will be several options, but we need an "Advertising" item. Click on it.

Practice shows that this option is already activated by default, but the switch shows the "OFF" position. This means that when you move the switch, you fall into a trap – instead of disabling ads, switching the toggle switch allows you to show it.

Be careful – in fact, this is not a deception, but only a small trick that is designed for less prepared users.

Allow ads on specific sites

If you have favorite sites that you use all the time, it makes sense to disable the ad blocker for them.

Why?

  1. First, an ad blocker can limit the functionality of the site – it is inconvenient, so sometimes it makes sense to remove the block.
  2. Secondly, sometimes advertising is fun, pleasant, useful – and you do not want to turn it off at all. If this is your case, a particular site can be excluded from the block list.

If you have favorite sites where you're ready to see ads, you need to act as follows:

  • Go to a site where you're ready to see all your ads, and then click the icon to the left of the URL to reveal information about the site.
  • In this drop-down list, select "Site Settings".
  • Find the entry "Advertising", then select the "Allow" item in the menu.

Now ads will be allowed on the selected resource, but annoying ads will still be automatically blocked.

Turn on the blocker

To enable the blocker, we act in the reverse order:

  • Launch the Chrome browser and click the left mouse button on the system button at the top right (these are three points located on top of each other).
  • In the menu that appears, select "Settings".
  • Then select the item "Additional" – it is located at the very bottom of the page;
  • Work with your finger and mouse wheel to the "Content Settings" block.
  • Click on it, and then select the "Advertising" tab.
  • By default, the mode is activated, check this position.

Keep in mind that the ad blocker works on the recommendations created by your requests. As a result, you may find yourself in an "information bubble", which greatly interferes and narrows your horizons.
